Remove deprecated methods pre-4.0

          Description

          All of the pre-4.0 deprecated methods in the core system need to be removed.

          1. Confirm the deprecated methods are not being used anywhere. If so, we will need to stop using them.
          2. Document the deprecated methods to be removed in this task.
          3. Remove the deprecated methods.

              We should only remove the code that is deprecated pre-4.0. Code that is deprecated because of 4.0, like because of CORE-2209, would not be removed because it has just been deprecated. That code could not be removed until v5.0+.
