      Description

Recurring invoices are not treated as recurring by non-merchant gateways in the same way as invoices generated from recurring services.

For example, no PayPal Subscriptions button appears for an invoice generated from a recurring invoice. However, it does appear for an invoice generated from a recurring service. It should work for both.

As described in my post and the docs, creating a recurring invoice creates both an initial invoice, and a recurring invoice. If you had tried to pay an invoice that was generated from the recurring invoice, you would be able to pay it via PayPal subscriptions. The initial invoice, however, is a one-time invoice. Since it does not recur, it is not eligible to be paid on a recurring basis.

So, I don't believe this task should exist. Instead the current behavior of creating a recurring invoice should be clarified/revised.

Is there any way we could associate the original invoice with the recurring invoice, that way the initial invoice could be paid with a subscription?

I'm not sure how difficult that would be. But the original invoice may not be for the same term as the recurring one, for example, if creating the invoice today but starting the recurring invoice tomorrow for 1 month intervals.

        That becomes:
        Invoice 1 - for 1 day
        Invoice 2 - for 1 month
        Invoice 3 - for 1 month
        ...etc.

I think it might be good to only create a recurring invoice and not the one-time invoice.

        Good points.

People do use the ability to invoice now, and create a recurring invoice at a given interval at some point off in the future. So the original invoice, and all subsequent invoices don't necessarily have the same term.

So not sure we can allow the first invoice to be included in the recurring set.

What I meant to say was that it may be good to have the option to only create the recurring invoice while not creating the one-time invoice along with it.
