Look into adding support for PayPal Checkout. See https://developer.paypal.com/docs/checkout/ for developer docs.
I believe this would be implemented as a non-merchant gateway. It offers some features over PayPal Payments Standard.

The API PayPal Payments Standard uses is deprecated, so this will eventually replace it. https://developer.paypal.com/docs/archive/express-checkout/integration-guide/ECReference/
We'll continue to include PayPal Payments Standard until it no longer works. But PayPal Checkout will become its replacement essentially.
